Opening up day two of our Yule advent calendar, you'll discover two adorable little mushroom crystal carvings! One in sodalite, the other kiwi jasper.
About the pieces
Because of their ability to spring up overnight in dark and shady 'inhospitable' places, mushrooms have long been associated with magic.
A source of enchantment, they are typically tied to nature spirits in lore. You won't have to look long to find images of the Fae interacting with fungi or stories about unwitting humans venturing into fairy rings, never to be seen again.
Because of their quick life cycle, mushrooms are an important symbol of life, death and rebirth. They have the miraculous ability to grow on decaying things and decay themselves with haste. But just as easily as they die, they are able to create many more in their place because of their spores. This endless cycle of death, life and rebirth makes it a fitting symbol on any ancestoral altar.
Sodalite properties
Sodalite is sometimes referred to as 'the stone of poetry and truth', perhaps because it is linked to the throat chakra which is said to aid communication. The deep blue hues are also symbolic of deep wisdom, clarity and rational thought. A very grounding stone that will strengthen your use of voice and perception of any given situation.

Kiwi properties
Kiwi jasper on the other hand, is a very nurturing stone, with a gentle, calm and supportive energy.
It is sourced solely from New Zealand which explains how it received it's name. Sometimes it referred to as 'sesame stone' or 'kiwi quartz'.
It is a relatively new material having been first discovered in 2014. It is often grey in colour with little flecks of black and mint green. It reminds me a little of dalmatian jasper, and just like it - the flecks of black are thought to absorb any negativity.
